01 Print Interior Pages

Use standard letter or A4 paper. Cream colored paper is better visually but white also works. Set your printer to these settings:

  • Range: Pages 2 to End
  • Order: Reverse
  • Mode: Duplex (Double-sided)
  • Edge: Long-Edge
  • Position: Center on Page
02 Print Cover

You can use legal (8.5x14) paper for A5 books which should work in most printers. For larger books use 19x13 paper. Ideally use short-grain paper to prevent the spine from curling or cracking. Center cover on page.

03 Cut Out Cover

Carefully trim the cover using a box cutter and a metal ruler for a straight, clean edge.

04 Crease Cover

Score the spine edges using a bone tool and ruler to ensure professional, crisp folds.

05 Trim Interior Pages

Use the exterior of your printed cover as a guide to trim your interior book block stack.

06 Thermal Binding

Cut and apply a glue strip, align the block inside the cover, and insert into a thermal binding machine.

07 Final Trim

Trim the three open sides using the golden triangles as guides. You are cutting off one eighth inch at this step. Keep the spine on the outside of the cutter blade. You now have a completed book!
